In 2024, PT Korindo Ariabima Sari, as one of the timber exporters to the European Union, was mentioned in the letter as allegedly obtaining part of its timber supply from PT Indosubur Sukses Makmur, which is linked to the conversion of natural forests into industrial plantation forest (HTI) areas. Korindo Group has terminated all transactions with Sentra Abadi Makmur (a timber trader sourcing from PT Indosubur Sukses Makmur) and PT Indosubur Sukses Makmur, in accordance with Korindo’s sustainability policy. On August 27, 2025, Korindo Group engaged the Timber Legality Certification Body, PT Mutu Hijau Indonesia, as an independent third party to conduct an independent audit and verification related to the ongoing investigation. From August 28 to September 26, 2025, PT Mutu Hijau Indonesia conducted an audit and verification using a qualitative approach through document review and gap analysis, with the following results: PT KABS and PT ISM have complied with the requirements of the Legality and Sustainability Verification System standard established by the Ministry of Forestry. The review indicated that part of PT KABS' raw material sources supplied by PT ISM originated from land clearing (conversion of natural forest land into plantation forest), which was not fully aligned with PT KABS' commitment. PT KABS has established adequate procedures and forms for raw material acceptance to support its Timber Sourcing Policy. Consistent monitoring of implementation is required to ensure alignment with stated commitments, including for raw materials procured from third parties. To achieve this, immediate actions are recommended as follows. . Based on the audit findings, the following action are recommended: Establishment of an Internal Audit Team. Implementation of a strict Due Diligence System across the entire supply chain, through regular technology-based deforestation monitoring. Enhancement of personnel capacity and policy dissemination. . As a follow-up to these recommendations, PT KABS will undertake the following actions: Issue an internal audit report in 2026, prepared jointly by the Korindo's audit team and ESG team. Conduct regular satellite-based monitoring of land cover changes every three months during the timber purchase contract period. Implement capacity building programs for personnel and conduct policy dissemination within this year. . Following the audit recommendations, PT KABS has implemented several corrective actions, including: Capacity-building activities and policy dissemination for relevant personnel were conducted on December 1, 2025, at PT KABS Pangkalan Bun. Satellite-based monitoring of land cover changes for raw material suppliers has been conducted regularly every three months as part of strengthening the supply chain monitoring system. . Land cover change monitoring activities were conducted for 2 forestry product mills involving 7 external suppliers, with a total wood supply volume of 46,528.60 m³, during the period from Quarter IV of 2025 (October–December 2025) to Quarter II of 2026 (April–June 2026). All monitoring activities and supplier reports were audited by the Joint Internal Audit Team. Based on the monitoring and audit results, no issues or indications of land conversion carried out by the company or its suppliers were identified in the inspected timber supply sources. On January 24, 2024, KLHK issued a letter to several Independent Assessment and Verification Institutions (LPVIs), including PT Mutu Hijau Indonesia. The letter pertained to allegations of illegal logging by PT Cakra Sejati Sempurna, as reported by online news media. According to data from the RPBBI system, PT Korindo Ariabima Sari had been sourcing raw materials from PT Cakra Sejati Sempurna. As per KLHK’s directive, LPVIs are tasked with tracing the origin of these raw materials to ensure their legality. PT Korindo Ariabima Sari procured timber that had been previously verified for legality under the company’s VLK/PHL Certificates. This verification was done through the Timber Legality Information System (SILK) and the Forest Product Administration Information System (SIPUHH). The timber was purchased from PT Cakra Sejati Sempurna in May and June 2023. No further transactions have taken since then. The transactions were conducted following timber legality verification procedures, which included: Checking the availability of the VLK/PHL (Timber Legality Verification System) certificate. Verifying the concordance of SKSHHKB (Certificate of Legality of Log Forest Products) documents with the log barcodes in SIPUHH. Including clauses b and c of Article 11 in the contract, which stipulate that PT Cakra Sejati Sempurna as the first party, guarantees compliance with Indonesian Government regulations and takes into account environmental sustainability. As of January 31, 2024, in accordance with the letter issued by KLHK, the Korindo Group has excluded PT Cakra Sejati Sempurna from its supply chain PT Mutu Hijau Indonesia will conduct further investigations into the case according to the official letter received on February 13, 2024. Korindo Group and PT Korindo Ariabima Sari will maintain a cooperative attitude throughout the investigation. Korindo Group remains committed to transacting only in timber that has been are legally and sustainably harvested, in line with VLK/PHL standards. On February 23rd, 2024, PT Mutu Hijau Indonesia confirmed, through a letter of clarification addressed to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, that the transaction involving the purchase of logs by PT Korindo Ariabima Sari from PT Cakra Sejati Sempurna was properly conducted, with the necessary evidence and supporting documents. PT Korindo Ariabima Sari has demonstrated competence and commitment to the responsible purchase of raw materials by verifying their legality and source, as required by the Ministry - [Greenpeace’s Publication: Burning Down the House](https://www.korindo.co.id/greenpeaces-publication-burning-down-the-house/): A publication titled “Burning Down the House” by Greenpeace (November 4, 2019) Greenpeace made a publication about 30 oil palm companies that allegedly committed deliberate burning in Indonesia. In the publication, Greenpeace claimed that Korindo carried out burning, resulting in 11.461 ha of burn scar recorded from 2015 to 2018. On September 23, 2019 and November 1, 2019, Korindo gave its clarification to Greenpeace through letters which stated: There have never been any arsons in Korindo's plantation area from 2016 to 2018 and from early 2019 to the present. The alleged arsons were natural fires (caused by external factors) in 2015 that Korindo neither started nor could control in spite of our utmost endeavours to fight the fires. According to the official data published by the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) (https://sipongi.menlhk.go.id/) which Greenpeace cited as the source for their report, there is no mention of Korindo in 2015. In 2016, 7.000 ha is claimed as a burn scar, it is in fact land clearing that took place between 2015 and 2016. In December 2017, The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) investigators visited the Korindo concessions, and on-site inspection concluded that the alleged intentional burning was not true. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forest site data (https://sipongi.menlhk.go.id/), no burn scars were found in the Korindo concession during 2017-2018. It is not true that the Korindo Group is destroying forests and peatlands through the deliberate use of fire. Korindo Group consistently and responsibly implements the Fire Control and Management program in its plantation areas. Korindo Group always investigates all reports of fire incidents, takes corrective actions, and promotes zero burning principles at all levels in each division/management. In its publication, Greenpeace admitted that the data on Korindo's burn scar of 11.461 ha was an overestimation. This burn scar calculation was not changed in the publication for reasons of methodological consistency. Korindo is committed to the practice of zero burning, meaning Korindo will never burn forests for land clearing. Korindo is always ready to put out the fires that occur in the concession by forming Forest Fire Response Teams equipped with sufficient facilities. - [Greenpeace’s Campaign: The Final Countdown](https://www.korindo.co.id/grievance/greenpeaces-campaign-the-final-countdown/): A publication titled “The Final Countdown” published by Greenpeace (September 19, 2018) Greenpeace made a list of allegations against Korindo in the publication: Land clearing from 2013 to 2016 that reached 30,000 ha and land clearing by deliberate burning. Both allegations were quoted from the Aidenvironment investigation report. A moratorium violation in PT Papua Agro Lestari (PAL)’s concession, whose management was still a part of Korindo Group’s subsidiaries at that time. Showing inconsistency in NDPE (No Deforestation, Peat, and Exploitation) policy implementation by announcing forest clearance for the residents to utilize and developing potential peatland areas. Korindo has clarified the allegations regarding land clearing and burning that Greenpeace quoted from the Aidenvironment publication. The clarification can be seen further in Korindo’s grievance list title “Mighty Earth’s Campaign: Burning Paradise”. On February 21, 2017, Korindo announced the temporary moratorium reinstatement on PT Papua Agro Lestari (PAL) based on the concerns of the stakeholders that the HCV/HCS assessment has not yet gone through peer review and quality panel review. The clarification can be seen further in Korindo's grievance list titled “Mighty Earth Campaign: Satellite Data Shows Korindo Violated Deforestation Moratorium” and “Article by Eco-Business: Korindo has Violated Deforestation Ban, NGO Reveals". Korindo has never carried out deliberate burning as alleged. Korindo continues to adhere to the moratorium to present time since 2017. Korindo maintains its commitment to the NDPE policy while running its business. - [RAN and TuK Indonesia Campaign: Perilous](https://www.korindo.co.id/grievance/ran-and-tuk-indonesia-campaign-perilous/): A publication by RAN (Rainforest Action Network) and TuK Indonesia (Tranformasi untuk Indonesia) titled “Perilous: Korindo, Land Grabbing & Banks” (12 November 2018) RAN and TuK Indonesia made several allegations against Korindo: Evading tax by using shell companies in tax haven countries and making company’s financial report containing inaccurate information. Land clearing by using fire Using intimidation and violence against the residents, and land grabbing without any prior agreement or engagement with the residents. Developing land before issuing permits PT Gelora Mandiri Membangun (GMM) expansion on steep slopes with high risks of erosion and fertilizer runoff Clearing HCV (High Carbon Value)/HCS (High Carbon Stock) forests, violating the NDPE policies (No Deforestation, No Expansion on Peat, No Exploitation), violating the RSPO principles (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil), and violating the FSC Policy for Association (Forest Stewardship Council). On November 12, 2018, TuK Indonesia staged a demonstration in front of Korindo’s Head Office without a permit or prior notice. On June 22, August 29, and November 2, 2018, Korindo gave its clarification to RAN through emails and letters. On November 12, 2018, Korindo posted a press release containing clarifications on its official website: Korindo's business operation in South Halmahera have contributed to the regional development of North Maluku Province in accordance with the Indonesian Government’s program to develop the region. Korindo never uses illegal timber. All timbers are SVLK (Timber Legality Assurance System) certified in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry number P.30/Menlhk/Setjen/PHPL.3/3/2016 article 9(1), which states that all timber producers must be SVLK certified in compliance with the SVLK scheme. Korindo is committed to respecting and complying with the laws and regulations of Indonesia. Korindo built oil palm plantation in areas designated and approved by the Government of Indonesia and follows the rules of the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO). On February 16, 2016, the South Halmahera Forestry Office stated through a letter number 522.1/110/206 that Korindo did not use fire for land clearing. Korindo clears land mechanically with heavy equipment in ways that cause minimum environmental damage. Korindo respects and upholds the residents’ rights by conducting dialogue through forums with the local community, village government, and the related stakeholders prior to the land development. The community and Korindo agreed on the land release, in accordance with the regulations in Indonesia. Korindo never forces, threaten, or uses violence against the community. KORINDO Group has never been involved in any questionable practices. Korindo has secured all permits and licenses for its business operations (such as PKH (Use of Forest Area Permit), ILOK (Location Permit), IUP (Utilization License), AMDAL (Environmental Impact Assessment), HGU (Cultivation Rights)) and is eager to demonstrate transparency for its activity and practice. In conclusion, the accusations in RAN and TuK Indonesia’s report regarding Korindo’s lack of permits, violations of Indonesian regulations, and violation of human rights are not true. Korindo will continue to actively contribute to the community around its operational areas through CSC (Corporate Social Contribution) programs. Korindo always upholds the residents’ rights by implementing the FPIC (Free, Prior and Informed Consent) principles. - [Article by Eco-Business: Korindo has Violated Deforestation Ban, NGO Reveals](https://www.korindo.co.id/grievance/article-by-eco-business-korindo-has-violated-deforestation-ban-ngo-reveals/): An article titled “Korindo has violated deforestation ban, NGO reveals” published by Eco-Business (16 February 2017) On February 15, 2017, Mighty Earth claimed that PT Papua Agro Lestari (PAL), which was one of Korindo Group’s subsidiaries at that time, still carried out land clearing despite a moratorium announcement for their concession back in 2016. On December 1, 2016, Korindo announced the temporary moratorium on new land development for PT Papua Agro Lestari (PAL) concession while waiting for the finalization of the HCV (High Conservation Value)/HCS (High Carbon Stock) assessment since the assessment result will be taken into consideration for future land development. On January 2, 2017, the result of Korindo’s HCV/HCS self-assessment done by BIOREF (the Research Center of Biodiversity and Tropical Forest Rehabilitation) from the IPB University was published on PT Papua Agro Lestari (PAL)’s official website. Based on the result of the self-assessment, Korindo lifted the moratorium on PT Papua Agro Lestari (PAL) and maintains to uphold the commitment to preserve conservation areas. On February 21, 2017, Korindo reinstated the temporary moratorium based on concerns expressed by some stakeholders that the HCV/HCS assessment has not yet gone through the peer review and the quality panel review. Korindo has maintained the implementation of the moratorium since February 2017 until now. - [Mighty Earth Campaign: Satellite Data Shows Korindo Violated Deforestation Moratorium](https://www.korindo.co.id/grievance/mighty-earth-campaign-satellite-data-shows-korindo-violated-deforestation-moratorium/): A publication titled “Satellite Data Shows Korindo Violates Deforestation Moratorium” published by Mighty Earth (15 February 2017) Mighty Earth claimed that Korindo was still committing land clearing on PT Papua Agro Lestari (PAL)’s concession, which was one of Korindo Group’s subsidiaries at that time, after announcing a moratorium in 2016. On December 1, 2016, Korindo announced the temporary moratorium on new land development for PT Papua Agro Lestari (PAL) concession while waiting for the finalization of the HCV (High Conservation Value)/HCS (High Carbon Stock) assessment since the assessment will be taken into consideration for future land development. Korindo has implemented the moratorium from February 2017 to the present time. - [Mighty Earth’s Campaign: Burning Paradise](https://www.korindo.co.id/grievance/mighty-earths-campaign-burning-paradise/): A report titled “Burning Paradise” from Mighty Earth (August 2016) Mighty Earth accuses Korindo of deforestation, illegal burning, and neglecting the welfare of the indigenous people of Papua. On September 1, 2016, Mighty Earth held a press conference and stated that their investigation indicated that Korindo was carrying out intentional burning for land clearing. On September 5, 2016, Korindo held a press conference to rebut the baseless accusations from Mighty Earth by providing objective evidence. The news media then publish Korindo's counterclaim press release which stated that: The land developed for Korindo oil palm plantations has obtained the government permit, and Korindo only developed APL (Areal Penggunaan Lain, which are areas designated for non-forest development). The hotspots seen in Korindo’s operational area were caused by an extremely long drought phenomenon in 2015 known as Super El-Nino. Korindo has always respected and upheld the rights of the residents throughout the development of the plantations. For more detail, please see this document. Shown below are the results of verification done by the government of Indonesia and the independent, impartial third party (FSC): On February 16, 2016, the Papua Forestry Office stated that the hotspots that had appeared inside PAL’s concession were caused by the extremely long drought and hunting activities by the residents around the plantations. On the same day, the South Halmahera Forestry Office stated that GMM had never conducted illegal deforestation activities and had never done land clearing using fire. On August 24, 2016, the Merauke Forestry and Plantation Office stated that BCA and DP did mechanized land clearing without using fire. In July 23, 2019, FSC released an overview of the investigation result regarding the allegations that Korindo did land clearing using fire. The overview stated that the Mighty Earth allegations were untrue. On February 17, 2017, GAKKUM KLHK (the Ministry of Environment and Forestry’s Environmental and Forestry Law Enforcement) sent a letter with the serial number S.43/PHLHK/PPH/GKM.2/2/2017 to the Indonesian Embassy in Spain stating that oil palm plantations under Korindo have never committed any illegal deforestation activities. Information about the correspondence was revealed to Korindo by GAKKUM KLHK. As a form of responsibility for community rights, Korindo has continued CSC (Corporate Social Contribution) programs that focus on 5 main pillars; education, health, economy, environment, and infrastructure. Korindo CSC Report can be found further here. An example of Korindo's contribution to the health sector is the establishment of the Asiki Clinic for the locals in Papua which was inaugurated in September 2017. In 2019, the clinic won a national award for being the second-best FKTP (First Level Health Facilities) out of 6,800 clinics that work with BPJS (Social Health Insurance Administration Body). Korindo has also shown its commitment to fulfilling FPIC (Free, Prior, and Informed Consent) program which can be seen in detail in Korindo Indigenous Report 2020. In September and October 2016, Mighty Earth sent letters to ask companies in Korindo's supply chain which includes palm oil, wood products, and wind tower buyers to end business with Korindo. Korindo decided to file a lawsuit for Mighty Earth's actions had impacted Korindo's reputation. Based on the verification done by the government of Indonesia and FSC as the third party, Korindo did not conduct any illegal deforestation activities and land clearing using fire. Korindo carries out its responsibilities to the community through CSC programs and is committed to the FPIC principle by maintaining communication with communities and upholding the rights of indigenous people. Korindo follows the regulations in Indonesia and works closely with the communities, which are shown through the implementation of the moratorium after completing the HCV/HCS assessment. On November 10, 2016, Korindo officially announced a moratorium for PT Tunas Sawa Erma, PT Berkat Cipta Abadi, and PT Dongin Prabhawa. On February 21, 2017, Korindo announced a moratorium for PT Papua Agro Lestari and PT Gelora Mandiri Membangun. In September 2019, Korindo Group filed a defamation lawsuit against Mighty Earth in the German court. The legal dispute between Kenertec Power System, a manufacturer of wind towers and part of Korindo Group, and Rainforest Rescue (Rettet den Regenwald e.V.) and the Center for International Policy, Inc., Mighty Earth’s fiscal sponsor, has been settled. Korindo’s public statement regarding the settlement of the lawsuit can be seen here. - [Grievance](https://www.korindo.co.id/grievance/) - [CPR](http://soc.korindo.co.id:9001/korsoc000/login.htm) - [Separation of Tunas Sawa Erma Group from Korindo Group](https://www.korindo.co.id/separation-of-tunas-sawa-erma-group-from-korindo-group/): JAKARTA , 1 October 2022 – Please be informed that PT Tunas Sawa Erma, PT Berkat Cipta Abadi and PT Dongin Prabhawa were separated from Korindo Group as of April 1, 2021.
